Where we started
Blossomgate Motors is an independent garage established in 1995, originally located on Blossomgate in the centre of Ripon. In 2004 we relocated to a purpose built unit on Ripon Business Park off the Boroughbridge Road, and that is where you will find us today.
Since we first opened our doors in spring 1995 it has been our aim to be a cost effective alternative to the main dealers, yet providing a professional and friendly service.

The MOT is a compulsory check for vehicles over 3 years old that are registered in the United Kingdom. It becomes due 3 years after first registration, and the certificate is valid for one year.
You can bring your vehicle in up to a month before the due date. Bring the old certificate (or the registration document for a first MOT) and the new certificate runs from the due date, not the day of the test.
Worth remembering if you are buying a used car: a certificate shows the vehicle was safe and roadworthy on the day it was tested, even though it is valid for a year.

Air conditioning servicing in Ripon
We all tend to ignore the air conditioning in our cars, until suddenly the windows steam up or a rather nasty smell invades the car. We even ignore it if it doesn’t seem to be working quite as well as it used to.
Take our advice and don’t. Get your air conditioning system re-charged. If it is not working at all, repairs should be done as soon as possible to stop moisture being absorbed and damaging the compressor and other parts of the system.
Maintenance, cleaning and servicing of your air conditioning keeps you healthy too. Remember: you’re breathing it in!

Who you’ll deal with
Blossomgate Motors is run by Richard Appleton, with Tom Lloyd as vehicle technician and motorbike MOT tester. Richard and Tom have a combined 50 years on the spanners in the motor trade.
1995
We open our doors in the spring, on Blossomgate in the centre of Ripon.
2002
Blossomgate Motors becomes a limited company.
2004
We move to a purpose built unit on Ripon Business Park, off the Boroughbridge Road.
2023
Richard and Tom start Canalside Cars, selling pre-owned cars from Unit 4, Navigation Way.
